A pitched battle took place on Wednesday last, in Wellington-fields, Virginia-water, Windsor, between two pugilists named Stubbs and Bennet, for a trifling sum, and which was most obstinately contested on both sides for nearly an hour, when Bennet was declared the victor. Stubbs was carried off the ground in a state of insensibility, and expired shortly afterwards. This fight arose out of one of those numerous challenges published in what is termed sporting newspapers. The day appointed for the fight, and the spot where it was to take place, were also made known, but no efforts were made to prevent it. Thus another victim has been added to the barbarous and disgusting system of prize-fighting.
