Bell's Weekly Messenger, No.1829, Sunday, April 17, 1831.

[Manchester]

A horrid story has prevailed in Manchester for the last few days, to the effect that a woman engaged in making veal pies has kidnapped children and slaughtered them for her cookery! On investigation, it has turned out, that a person employed in preparing anatomical subjects for the surgeons lodged in the house where this revolting outrage was said to have been committed, and that this is the only ground for the above-mentioned imputation. So violent was the popular indignation, that it was with great difficulty the inhabitants of the house in question escaped from being torn in pieces by them.
