Portsoken Ward.

Wednesday the election for an alderman for this ward terminated, by the Lord Mayor declaring the choice of the wardmote to have fallen upon Mr. Scales, who had been elected by a majority of 95 votes. Previously to the announcement being made by his lordship, a protest was delivered to him on behalf of Mr. Hughes, who contended that, as Mr. Scales was an incompetent candidate, he himself ought legally to have been returned.
