On Monday the Salvation Army held a "field-day " at the Alexandra palace, at which about 20,000 persons were present. During the proceedings a letter from the Queen to Mrs. Booth was read, in which her Majesty, while declining to subscribe to the fund being raised for acquiring the Grecian Theatre, expresses the satisfaction with which she has heard of the society's efforts to will thousands of people "to the ways of temperance, virtue, and religion.
