A meeting of the Royal Humane Society was held recently, when the bronze medallion, with a written testimonial, was given to Sir Malcolm M'Gregor, Bart., Captain of her Majesty's ship Danae; to John G. Nelson, head seaman; and John G. Thew, able seaman, of the same ship, for saving the life of Cornelius Clarke, who fell overboard in Lagos roads, on the west coast of Africa, on Oct. 3 last. The silver medallion of the society was awarded to Lieutenant John J. A. Gravener, of her Majesty's ship Dasher, for saving William Killman, a corporal of the 17th Regiment. The bronze clasp—the recipient having before received the bronze medallion of the society—was given to John Bull, a krooman, of her Majesty's ship Lynx, for saving Thomas Gardener, of the same ship, who fell overboard at sea, a number of sharks surrounding the vessel at the time, in February last. The bronze medallion was given to Henry Law, coxswain of her Majesty's ship Royal George, for saving Robert Brant, who fell overboard in Kingston harbour; to Ernest O. B. Furlong, for saving Thomas Dodd, who fell into the water while in a state of somnambulism at Auckland, New Zealand. and to H. Marshall, for saving A. H. Coaker, who sank while bathing at Montevideo. The "thanks" of the society, inscribed on vellum, were given to George Wright, for saving George Smith; and on parchment to Peter Barrett, for saving John Soden; and also to William Easton, for saving Edward William Young.
