Distress of the Jews.

Some charitable gentlemen belonging to the Jewish persuasion, at the head of whom is the benevolent Mr. Montefiore, Mr. Rothschild, &c. have raised a subscription amounting to nearly 2,000l. On Sunday the 14th instant, a meeting was held at the Synagogue in Bevis Marks, where numerous applicants came for relief; and, on their cases being taken into consideration, tickets were issued affording relief to the amount of a half sovereign or a sovereign, according to circumstances, and upwards of 600l. was distributed. Mr Montefiore has also visited numerous distressed families in the eastern parts of the town, and distributed upwards of 50l. without any distinction of religion.
